I'd heard about York Beach from a friend, so on our road trip to Portland, Maine and Quebec City a few weeks ago, we decided to make a quick stop here. It was perfect since Harvey needed a break from sitting in his car seat for so long.
The weather was so good that weekend that the beach was very crowded. York Beach is a small town in York, Maine comprised of two beaches. We ended up in Short Sands Beach, which is the more child friendly beach and is famous for its carnival atmosphere. There are shops selling salt water taffy and supposedly a carousel and playground as well.
It turns out that Harvey is no longer afraid of sand! The first time he experienced sitting in sand (on a beach in Puerto Rico) back in March, he started crying and refused to move. Now he's our happy little adventurer.
We didn't stay long since it was quite hot and we didn't want to reach Portland too late. It was the perfect break from driving and we were all refreshed when we got back into the car.
